Professional Liverpool is delighted by kind permission of the Bank of England to invite you to a talk by Donald Kohn.
In a period of little more than a year from now the system of financial regulation in the UK will undergo its biggest ever overhaul. As well as changes to the institutional responsibility for regulating banks and insurance companies the Financial Services Bill now going through parliament aims to change the way in which prudential supervision is done – and to add a new dimension of ‘macro-prudential’ supervision aimed at strengthening the resilience of the UK financial system as a whole. At the heart of the arrangements will be the Bank of England’s new Financial Policy Committee, set up in interim form last year.
Like their counterparts on the Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee, the FPC’s members will make regular visits to different parts of the UK to discuss key policy issues with the business community. On 14 March Professional Liverpool is holding a lunch meeting at which FPC member Donald Kohn will talk about the hopes and challenges for the new era of UK financial regulation, and answer questions off-the-record.
As a former vice chairman of the US Federal Reserve, Donald Kohn is an expert on monetary policy, financial regulation and macroeconomics. Prior to taking office as a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve, he was an adviser to the Board for Monetary Policy from 2001 to 2002, secretary of the Federal Open Market Committee from 1987 to 2002, director of the Division of Monetary Affairs from 1987 to 2001, and deputy staff director for Monetary and Financial Policy from 1983 to 1987. He is a senior fellow in the Economic Studies Program at the Brookings Institution.
