Following the success of previous years’ events, Professional Liverpool returned to Hillside Golf Club, Southport, for the 2009 event!

Competitors again had the opportunity to visit one of the jewels in the crown in what is possibly ’England’s Golfing Capital’, part of one of the finest stretches of links courses in the country. Hillside Golf Club sits adjacent to the Royal Birkdale, and within striking distance of Southport & Ainsdale and Formby. A round of golf here is always a memorable experience, with many of the Club’s visitors considering it equal to anything the Open Championships have to offer.  Certinaly this was the case for our keen competitors. 

The day’s event took the format of a Stableford 4’s competition at three-quarters handicap, with the best 2 scores counting towards the team score. Prizes were awarded to the teams finishing in 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions, with additional prizes gained for the ’nearest the pin’ on the 10th and the ’longest drive’ on the 17th. 

A light lunch was provided for participants following registration from 11:30 a.m. onwards, with tee times arranged from 2:00 p.m. onwards.

In line with Professional Liverpool’s ethos, following the day’s golf a dinner and award ceremony took place in Hillside Golf Club itself, where participants in the day’s sport were able to relive their experiences, and tales of ’birdies’ and ’eagles’ abounded, but none to beat the 'hole in one' to the delight of all present! 

All in all, a very successful and enjoyable day, and one on which not even the short spot of rain could dampen the spirits of the participants.  Our sincere thanks to all those who took part and to Griffiths & Armour who kindly sponsored prizes for the event.
